WATCH: Dad finds car’s dash stripped after watching son’s soccer match

After watching his child's soccer match recently he came out and found his vehicle's dashboard had been stripped.

A local father wants to warn vehicle owners to be careful and vigilant.
He explained that at 08:20 on Saturday, February 4 he parked his white Toyota Hilux bakkie in front of his child’s school. He then went in to watch his son’s soccer match. When he came out at 09:20 he tried unlocking his car with his keys. He saw that the alarm did not go off and tried to open the door. To his surprise, the door opened and that is when he saw his dashboard had been stripped.

He believes they would have stolen his truck as well if they hadn’t been stopped.

“The guy who went to the front disconnected the hooter first so that there will be no noise from the alarm,” he explained.

He explained as far as he understands these types of cars use an electronic control unit (ECU), that communicates with the computer box and the car keys. These criminals then disconnect the car’s ECU and connect their own, which means they can then start the car.

Adding that he believes this whole process takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

In the video footage, you can see the men who broke into his car sitting in their car two parking bays away. Once the dad and child walk to their car, they drive off.
