Road resurfacing project put on hold due to funds

The road resurfacing that has been taking place throughout Mogale City will not be finished at the end of May.

Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) would like to inform the community that roadworks, that are currently being done throughout the city, will be delayed.

A statement from MCLM read, “Contrary to a previous public statement issued by the municipality, Mogale City’s Roads and Transport Services would like to inform road and other affected users that the Treasury-sponsored road re-surfacing project initially targeted for completion at the end of May 2023 will be temporarily delayed.”

Although construction on these activities is already underway on Windsor Road, Albertina Sisulu and Paardekraal Drive it has stalled due to the non-allocation of funds from the government sponsor, the National Treasury.

“The national government funder is currently in the process of re-allocating funds which has resulted in impermanent delays in completing the required road re-surfacing construction work. Based on the feedback received, the contractors will resume full operations once the funding reallocation process has been finalised.

“On behalf of National Treasury and the municipality as a stakeholder in this project, Mogale City Roads and Transport Services hereby apologises to all road users and affected parties for the inconvenience these delays may create.”
