Municipality predicts water to be fully restored by July 28

While the water levels continue to rise in the Mogale City reservoirs, it is expected to be back to normal by the end of the week.

Following a frustrating few weeks without water in our community, the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) released a statement to explain their reservoir water levels at that time. In the statement sent on July 21, the municipality said it has been a struggle for their reservoir levels to recover following Rand Water’s 58-hour shutdown.

They explained the following:

• Witpoortjie reservoirs are Rand Water Depo Reservoirs located in Kagiso and they feed into Mogale City – Kagiso Reservoir and South African Breweries. And at the time, these reservoirs’ water level was at 40%, meaning 70 to 80% of the water supply had been restored to most of the areas in Kagiso. Rand Water storage systems continued to stabilise in the township
• The Krugersdorp Rand Water Depo Reservoirs are Rand Water Reservoirs located in Krugersdorp on Voortrekker Road. They supply Kenmare, Dan Pienaarville, Munsieville and Rangeview reservoirs. Those were at 45%

Adding that water supply would have continued to stabilise, even though the Kenmare Reservoir water levels remained low. Kenmare is the main feeder to the Dan Pienaarville, Munsieville and Rangeview reservoirs, therefor it takes longer to fill this reservoir.

“While the municipality’s Water Services can confirm that progress on the water supply restoration is satisfactory at this stage, we expect the water supply system to be fully restored within the next seven days [ending July 28]. For this to be achieved, we once again urge residents of Mogale City to continue using water sparingly which will result in the rapid rising of our reservoir levels, and water supply being fully restored.”
