WATCH: Pedestrian steps in front of moving car: Was it an accident or a planned heist?
What may seem like an innocent accident where a woman hit a pedestrian may be a calculated plan to rob or hijack you.
While on her way to work, Nandi Oosthuizen hit a pedestrian. While it all sounds very straightforward, Oosthuizen believes the whole incident could have been orchestrated for other nefarious reasons.

She told the Krugersdorp News she was driving along Voortrekker Road on July 11, turning into the service road just past a popular restaurant, when the incident occurred. Because she knows there are a lot of businesses in this particular stretch of road, she always drives slowly. Oosthuizen then noticed a woman on her right side but explained that she did not see the man on the other side. The next thing she heard was a loud noise, a blow, and saw a man soaring through the air.
She slammed on the brakes, took a second to process what had just happened, and then decided to pull over and get out of her car.
“I locked my car and went to check on him. He immediately told me that he is very sorry. He wanted to run to a dustbin across the road. He said it was his fault and that he ran into my car.”
She stated that the man had no visible injuries, but that he was traumatised and in shock. She also stated that he couldn’t stop shaking. Oosthuizen’s passenger side mirror was broken and said that the car has a huge dent.
She wanted to tell the News about her experience because she believed something did not add up.
I want to warn others who find themselves in the same situation as I do. If something like this happens to you, do not stop, rather drive to your nearest police station because this is something new that is happening in our area.”
While reporting the incident to the Krugersdorp Police Station, she said they told her that they are receiving more complaints of this nature. A person would run in front of your car to make you think that you hit them. While you stop to see if the person is OK, someone else robs you or takes your car.
After the incident, Oosthuizen said she felt terrible and was also in shock, but after reviewing the footage she obtained from a business close by, she believes this could have been a setup.

“While I was driving down the road, I noticed a woman and a man who appeared to know one another. On the other side, another man was standing next to a dustbin. When I hit him, none of them yelled or appeared shocked; they didn’t even approach to see if he was OK. The man and woman can be seen in the video glancing at each other as though waiting for a car. He had no injuries, and you can see him later in the day strolling about gathering up papers before the three of them depart together.”
The News approached Captain Solomon Sibiya about what a person should do in this situation.
“If it’s safe, especially considering the time of the incident and your surroundings, the manner under which the accident occurred, stop and call the police. If not or you suspect foul play, please do not take chances, drive straight to the nearest police station.
The law says you must stop immediately after the accident and call the police,” he said.
