Krugersdorp’s elderly spoilt by Absa

Absa Gauteng Home Loans decided that they wanted to help the Bejaarde Hulpstigting by donating food parcels to the elderly in need.

A team from Absa’s Gauteng Home Loans surprised residents of the Jack Cotton, President, Pioneer, Golden Age Village, and Van Riebeeck old age home as well as Kleinvallei with food parcels recently.

Absa’s regional manager Istiaq Sattor told the Krugersdorp News that the initiative was part of their corporate social investment and the food parcels were self-funded to give to the needy communities in these old age homes.

Every year members of the team make suggestions of organisations that they would like to help and this year one of Absa’s employees, Magda Niemand, suggested the Bejaarde Hulpstigting NPO.

Elaine Mgcaleka, Magda Niemand, Melanie Japhta, Nicolette Coetzee, Pallesa Khumalo, Istiaq Sattor, Denisha Govender and Pamela Fleming.

This organisation was started by Riana Botha and focuses on helping the elderly. Riana has been focusing on these old age homes and Kleinvallei and visits them weekly, providing food parcels, celebrating the residents’ birthdays with them, and spoiling them on special days.

The team does these outreaches three times a year and this time they donated 121 food parcels.

Istiaq added that these projects are something they need to be consistent in because it means a lot.

“We would like to house a nation in a meaningful way, not only by getting people to buy houses but also through projects like these,” he concluded.

The team went around on July 21 and handed out the food parcels which had goodies and much-needed staple foods in them.
