Netcare gives lifesaving CPR lessons

Knowing how to do CPR can save someone's life. The Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital team recently taught this skill for free.

When deciding to give back to the community, why not teach them to save a life?

This is exactly what Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital focused on when they presented free CPR classes for Mandela Day.

The event was held on July 22 at the Key West Shopping Centre’s park, and in addition to the life-saving techniques, BCI Security was present with their canines, the Netcare 911 team with their ambulances, the Krugersdorp fire department, and Mogale City’s Public Safety, making it a day filled with safety tips.

The team braced the cold from very early on and had 101 visitors come through to learn about CPR. Ada-May Thompson from the hospital said that it was a very successful day and people showed interest and asked a lot of questions.

They held a wellness awareness week as well and it was a huge success. On July 18 they served soup and bread to the community, the staff also participated in a Zumba class that was presented by B to Z Dance Fitness club.

Thompson said that CPR is something everyone should know because it can save a life if done quickly.

How to do CPR:
• Check for responsiveness (by tapping the person on the shoulder)
• Check for pulse and breathing (not more than 10 seconds)
• If no pulse or breathing call for help and start with compressions
• It will be advisable that if you need to perform CPR on someone, but you don’t know how to call 082 911 they will telephonically talk you through it and what u should do

If you would like to learn CPR but missed this event, don’t fret because they will be hosting another CPR day in December.
