Men and women sweat it out for charity in Kagiso
Both men and women stood in solidarity and made a strong statement to support South African girls who do not have access to, or cannot afford to buy sanitary products.
Girl Grow Group along with other fitness clubs in Kagiso held their annual aerobics charity event on Saturday, August 5.
Girl Grow Group is a non-profit organisation in Kagiso that comes to the aid of many young girls. They have various programmes that intend on bringing the best out of young girls and helping them realise their full potential. Nthabiseng Nalane, the founder of the group, explained how important it was to have the charity and how far it will go for young girls. This charity is to create awareness of women’s physical and mental well-being.

“In our line of work, we have encountered so many women who live in rural areas and can not afford sanitary products. That comes with a lot of stigma and unwanted attention for women and girls when they have to be extra-cautious and not continue with their daily routine because of the judgment they receive due to the consequences that come with a lack of products to help go through your menstrual cycle,” Nalane said.

In 2022, it was announced by former Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini that approximately seven million South African girls do not have access to, or cannot afford to buy sanitary products.

In a bid to create awareness of this shocking statistic, many young women and girls (even men) took part in the event by booking aerobics sessions throughout the day. Over 100 sanitary hampers were donated and Nalane believes it will go a long way in helping the community.
