Curro athletes fly the SA flag high in Italy
Curro Krugersdorp High School is proud of its athletes' achievements and will continue to support and nurture their talents as they strive for excellence in their sporting endeavours.
Curro Krugersdorp High School is proud to announce the exceptional achievements of two of its finest athletes, Jenna Westermeyer and Kutlwano Nkabinde, who took part in the 7th edition of the Tricolour Games held in Reggio Emilia, Italy, late last month.
Jenna participated in the fiercely contested 2km road race and her dedication and unrelenting determination paid off as she secured a well-deserved silver medal. Her exemplary performance has also filled the entire school with immense pride and joy.
Curro Krugersdorp High School head of sport Willem Swanepoel was ecstatic.
“Congratulations Jenna and thank you for bringing glory to our school and nation,” Swanepoel said.
Kutlwano Nkabinde showcased his skill and talent in the pool as part of the SA swimming team. He competed against swimmers from across the world in the U19 races despite being U15 and showed great talent and relentlessness finishing in these positions in the following races:
• 50m Butterfly: 29th out of 40 swimmers
• 50m Backstroke: 21st out of 26 swimmers
• 50m Freestyle: 28th of 45 swimmers
• 100m Freestyle: 21st out of 35 swimmers
This year’s games witnessed athletes from Gauteng making their mark at the competition with Curro’s stars among the best. In comparison to the previous edition in 2018, where Gauteng had 90 athletes competing, this year saw significant growth with 132 athletes representing both Gauteng and the nation as a whole.
“The increase in participation is an indication of the remarkable talent and potential within the region and reaffirms the commitment to promoting sportsmanship and excellence in athletics,” said Curro Krugersdorp marketer Amoryn Wright.
She added the games are held once every four years and have brought together over 20 countries and saw the participation of more than 1 000 athletes competing across diverse disciplines. The event stands as a testament to the power of sports in fostering mutual understanding and friendship between nations.
Swanepoel once again extends his praise for the learners as they have made the country and nation proud.
“As staunch supporters of our school’s sporting heroes, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Jenna and Kutlwano, and the entire South African contingent for their outstanding performances at the games. Your hard work, dedication, and accomplishments serve as an inspiration to the youth of South Africa, motivating them to pursue their dreams and excel in their chosen fields.”
