Monument armed robbery: High speed chase leads to three arrests
An armed robbery near a supermarket in Monument led to a high-speed chase along Voortrekker Road, shots being fired, a crash, and arrests on Tuesday.
Krugersdorp police apprehended three men on Tuesday afternoon, August 15 after an alleged armed robbery near a supermarket in Monument. One robber remains at large.
Police patrollers received a tip-off at about 12:45 of four robbers allegedly committing an armed robbery near the supermarket. This then led to a car chase along Voortrekker Road which led police to Simon Bekker Street in Rangeview.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Senne Mogotlane the alleged robbers shot at the police vehicle which led to a police vehicle crashing near a complex on Simon Bekker Street.
“The perpetrators opened fire at the police vehicle which led to the unfortunate crash, however, two more police vehicles gave chase and followed them [the perpetrators] who eventually jumped out of their own vehicle. They then jumped over an electric fence and hid inside a residential home only to be caught and ultimately arrested. We also confiscated their weapons from them as two of them were still armed. They had revolvers in their possession which will be collected by forensics,” Mogotlane said.

Mogotlane concluded that one police officer sustained minor injuries while a robber sustained serious injuries. No deaths were reported.
Various law enforcement services from the police along with private security companies were on the scene to observe and scan the area thereafter. Other services included crime prevention wardens, EPR Security, Dowry, and CPF Sector 7 members.
