Stage 4 load-shedding to kick in at 4pm today
Eskom confirms that the implementation of Stage 4 is due to the loss of generation units in the past 24 hours.
Stage 2 load-shedding is currently in force until 16:00 this afternoon, 29 August but thereafter, Stage 4 load-shedding will be implemented until 05:00 on Wednesday, August 30.
Eskom confirms that this pattern will be implemented daily until further notice. The implementation of the higher of load-shedding is due to the loss of additional generation units over the past 24 hours, however, Eskom hopes to reduce stages of load-shedding where possible.
Breakdowns are currently at 16 154MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service planned maintenance is 5 970MW. Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit at Duvha, Kendal, and Majuba power stations was returned. In the same period, a generating unit at Camden, Kendal, and Majuba power stations was returned to service. The delay in returning service to a generating unit at Tukuka and Kendal power stations is also contributing to capacity constraints.
Eskom’s load forecast for the evening peak demand is 28 512 MW and members of the public are encouraged to assist the power utility in reducing demand by switching off non-essential appliances. Customers are encouraged to switch off geysers, pool pumps, and other non-essential appliances from 17:00 to 21:00 as it lowers demand helps alleviate pressure on the power system, and contributes to the lower stages of load-shedding.
Eskom will update the public should any change occur.
