Date announced for new prepaid water meter upgrade

New and effective water meter upgrades will take place next week, the municipality confirmed.

Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) will be implementing a software upgrade, called TID rollover, on all prepaid water and electricity meters across the city on September 18.

According to MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu, when the rollover is implemented, users must ensure that all pre-purchased tokens are loaded into the meter as these will not work after the upgrade. To activate the upgrade, prepaid users with STS prepaid meters will receive an extra token/ voucher when purchasing prepaid water or electricity from the municipality and its third-party outlets such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, SPAR and Pep.

Mahlangu said residents will receive 20-digit tokens which they will use to recode and upgrade their meter. Mahlangu advised that residents follow these three steps:

• Enter the first 20 digits of the key change token and wait for it to be accepted
• Enter the second 20 digits of the key change token and wait for it to be accepted
• Enter the usual 20-digit electricity or water token to complete the recoding and then recharge the units as normal

Mahlangu further appealed to residents who have access to this information to share it with friends and family.

“We urge residents that have access to this information to assist family members, friends and neighbours with updates where possible especially those living with disabilities.”
