Joburg’s water system on the brink of collapse — Mogale also affected
With the Eikenhof system being under immense constraints, there are some parts of Mogale City that have been without water for hours and warnings say this will continue if water usage is not curbed.

Some residents of Mogale City have been without water for more than 24 hours and a statement from Joburg Water said their system is struggling to keep up with increasing dedemands.
The statement said they are appealing to customers to urgently reduce water usage as the Eikenhof pump is under severe strain.
According to the statement, Rand Water has alerted them and a number of other municipalities to try and lower the demand on the Eikenhof system.
“High consumption may result in a collapse, which will result in little to no water supply to customers.”
All Rand Water primary and secondary stations are operating at their maximum capacity but reservoir levels continue to be at their lowest. This is resulting in low supply levels and high lying areas being without water.
This issue coincides with the City of Johannesburg’s level one water restrictions which is implemented between September 1 and March 31 to ensure sustainable and continuous water supply in the coming months.
At the moment Mindalore, Luipaardsvlei, Wentworth Park, Noordheuwel, Kenmare and Monument have been without water for more than a day.
Although the water started improving in the early evening of September 15, the situation worsened throughout the night and water did not return.
Residents are asked to please use water sparingly as this problem affects not only Mogale City but Roodepoort, Randburg, Soweto and the Deep South.
