Business in CBD targeted by armed robbers: More than 70 car batteries stolen
Criminals made their intentions clear in Mogale City this past week as Mapogo A Mathamaga responded to at least two break-ins as well as an armed robbery.
More than 70 car batteries were among the many items stolen during an armed robbery at a business situated in Commissioner Street in the Krugersdorp CBD last week.
According to Mapogo A Mathamaga’s operations manager Danie Vermeulen, the armed robbery occurred just before 09:00 on September 15.
“Two suspects entered the business with a Toyota Camry pretending to buy a car battery. One suspect held the staff at gunpoint and forced them into a bathroom. The victims were also tied up. Two more suspects drove in with a white KIA light delivery vehicle and started loading car batteries onto the back. The suspects fled the scene along with 74 vehicle batteries, various cellphones, one laptop as well as jewellery.”
Three other crime incidents also occurred that week.
The second involved an attempted vehicle theft in Terenure Road, Kenmare on September 12 where four alleged robbers, driving a black BMW, broke a window of a white Toyota Fortuner and attempted to steal the vehicle. According to Vermeulen, the robbers were disturbed by a member of the public and fled the scene.
The third incident occurred just after 06:00 on September 16 and involved a break-in and theft at Lagois Street in Burgershoop. Vermeulen said robbers gained entry by jumping over the palisade perimeter fence and breaking through the burglar bars. The perps went on to steal three gas bottles, two small gas stoves, one shelf, and one wooden door before fleeing the scene.
The fourth incident took place just after midnight on September 17 and involved a business break-in in Pretoria Street, Krugersdorp Central. Vermeulen added that robbers entered the premises by climbing onto the roof and cutting it open. They then stole an unknown amount of money and cigarettes. They, however, fled the scene when the alarm sounded and all stolen items, one bolt cutter, grinding discs, and a pair of pliers were recovered on the scene by the Mapogo’s reaction officers.
