Girls Grow Group on a sanitary quest

Local organisation in Kagiso donates over 100 sanitary products to young girls in Kagiso.

The Girls Grow Group, a community organisation based in Kagiso, continues its quest for community development having provided sanitary products to young girls recently.

Girls’ reproductive rights remain a major concern in many rural communities as so many young girls cannot afford sanitary pads.

Nthabiseng Nalane hands over a pack of sanitary pads to Itumeleng Dlamini.

With this in mind, the Girls Grow Group took it upon themselves to reach out to girls in Kagiso by donating over 100 sanitary products and ensuring they don’t feel ashamed.

“There is a stigma attached to a lack of access to these products. We are having a serious problem in our society regarding sanitary pads and most girls don’t attend school for this reason. We need to sit down and see how can help them,” said Nthabiseng Nalane, founder of the Girls Grow Group.

Gabby Mthembu and Mammy Gobo receive a pack of sanitary pads as well as toiletries.

Nthabiseng believes that more girls will be able to be productive and have more self-confidence as long as they help them with their vulnerabilities.
