New EMS station to boost response times in the Drift
A new Emergency Medical Services station opened in Muldersdrift to greatly improve response times.
Sometimes it can take a while for a provincial ambulance to arrive at a scene, especially in the outskirts of town. However, a new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) station has been opened in Muldersdrift to boost response times.
Councillor Shenan Cochrane excitedly shared with the Krugersdorp News that a government satellite ambulance dispatch centre was opened at Avianto Estate on Valentine’s Day.
“This base has brought EMS ambulance services into the Muldersdrift community and will greatly improve response times,” Cochrane said.
She continued that when Jurgens Bence, from the West Rand Region Provincial Ambulance Services, heard about the project, he immediately displayed interest and got to work with support from Member of the Provincial Legislature, Madeleine Hicklin, to identify a location for the centre.

“We believe this high-quality ambulance service will greatly improve accessibility to emergency health care – a right of every citizen in South Africa,” Cochrane believes.
She added this wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of the community who got involved, from the necessary infrastructure at no cost to the department to small things such as water and coffee provided to the staff from a local petrol station.
“This partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration between the public and private sectors in addressing the healthcare needs of our communities,” Bence said.
André Raijmakers will manage the centre along with an experienced team on call, day and night.
