Bridge at Indaba Lane collapses
The bridge on Indaba Lane collapsed as a result of heavy rainfall recently.
The bridge on Indaba Lane in Muldersdrift has been washed away following heavy thunderstorms and floods on Tuesday, March 4.
The collapse has affected around 40 homes and businesses, forcing residents and business owners to use alternative routes for travel and trade.
According to Mogale City ward councillor Shennen Cochrane, thousands of litres of sewage flushed away the bridge, impacting not only parts of Muldersdrift but also neighbouring areas under the City of Johannesburg, such as Honeydew and Strubens Valley.
“Three bulk sewerage lines from the City of Johannesburg that cross the river from Honeydew have been washed away, causing thousands of litres of sewage to flow into the river. Johannesburg Water and Mogale City are assessing the damage and will advise on solutions.
It must be noted that these bulk lines will not be a quick fix. Please stay away from the river water, which will be highly contaminated until further notice,” said Cochrane.
