Safer tourism a high priority in Mogale
The municipality recently launched a campaign to focus on tourism development in the area, as well as tourism safety.
Tourism and safety goes hand in hand and the Department of Tourism in collaboration with Mogale City’s Tourism Development Division recently launched a Domestic Tourism and Safety Awareness Campaign.
Mogale’s communications officer Tendani Shavhani said the campaign’s goal is to strengthen tourism safety awareness at important local attractions and ensure that tourists and tourism stakeholders are equipped with essential safety information.
“This initiative aligns with the department’s national awareness strategy which aims to minimise the vulnerabilities of tourists, reduce crime incidents and promote responsible practices.
By fostering safer travel environments, the campaign contributes to sustaining a positive tourism experience while encouraging inter-provincial travel,” she explained.
She added during this time they had community tourism engagement in Hekpoort, a tourism awareness workshop in Magaliesburg and a tourism safety blitz at Phelindaba and Ashenti Road.
The safety blitz included Mogale’s Public Safety, police and the Road Traffic Infringement Agency where they concluded roadside stops to educate motorists on tourism safety tips and crime prevention measures.
“The campaign was supported by a range of stakeholders, including the North West Department of Economic Development, Gauteng Tourism Authority, Gauteng Department of Community Safety and ER24. Their collective efforts reinforced the importance of inter-agency collaboration in ensuring safer tourism experiences. By prioritising tourism safety, Mogale City and the Department of Tourism reaffirm their commitment to fostering a sustainable and secure tourism industry, ensuring that local and international visitors can explore with confidence,” she concluded.
