Betty said she was born in Ladysmith in 1925, and she later moved to Pietermaritzburg. She went to school there and later met her husband at the age of 18. They then tied the knot.
I was married to the love of my life for 64 years. People told me the marriage was not going to last, however, we proved everyone wrong.
“After my husband passed, I moved to Krugersdorp at the age of 80 to be closer to one of my daughters who lives here,” she said.
She added that she has three daughters, the other two of whom are twins and live in Australia.
“I am also blessed with five grandchildren and another five great-grandchildren. One of my grandchildren flew in from London to visit me on my birthday, whom I haven’t seen in many years,” she added.
She revealed the secret to a long and happy life is to keep yourself busy and not to sit and do nothing.
“Above all, you have to have God in your life. The secret to a happy life is to not think about yourself and help other people instead,” she explained.
I have had such a blessed life with good health and to see my family grow up. I’m so thankful for all the good things,” she concluded.
