No provincial support – now Toolbox Hub turns to locals
With provincial funding denied, the Toolbox Hub urges businesses and residents to back its vital work in training and employing homeless men.
The Toolbox Community Empowerment Hub regrets to inform their valued partners and stakeholders that provincial governmental funding is being withheld for their 2025/ 26 financial year.
Project manager of the hub, Andrew Holdsworth, said this came despite part-funding in the previous financial year and the well-documented success in empowering homeless and destitute men through practical skills development and access to sustainable employment.
He added that in the previous financial year alone, the programme facilitated the creation of over 800 jobs, restoring dignity and purpose to those pushed to the margins of society.
“The decision to withhold financial support reflects a deeply concerning failure by the provincial government to invest in practical, proven solutions for reducing poverty, unemployment and homelessness. We lament their short-sightedness in turning away from a life-saving initiative that directly contributes to social and economic upliftment. The consequence is not only a disruption of services but a missed opportunity to empower those most in need,” he said.
Holdsworth reiterated they remain committed to the men they serve and calls on local businesses and community partners to stand with them as they pursue alternative means of sustaining their critical work.
If you want to assist in the upliftment of these men, contact Holdsworth on 060 845 2291 or email toolbox@childincrisis.org.za.
