Petition calls for safer Krugersdorp North
Krugersdorp Police Station Commander stresses crime is not on the rise, amid a petition signed by Krugersdorp North residents stating otherwise.
With concerns about rising crime, residents of Krugersdorp North have united to sign a petition calling for a safer community.
On September 3, ward councillor Mark Trump urged residents to sign the petition against crime in the area. He said the initiative aims to bring change in law enforcement across the town, where community safety remains a top priority.
“It is important that we support police as a community and hold local government accountable to enforce the by-laws,” he said.
Although this particular petition received 35 signatures, Trump noted that several others have circulated in recent months, collectively gathering hundreds of signatures.
Resident Janine Bezuidenhout, who signed the petition, explained that she sees it as her duty.
“I want to make our town a safer place for the community. I hope my signature will make a difference.”
For her, it is about taking action.
“We will pick the fruit when we stand up to make our community safe again, and I encourage community members to also try and make a difference,” she said.
The Krugersdorp News contacted Krugersdorp Police Station Commander Brigadier Happy Xaba, who stated that crime is not on the rise.
“However, it is always in the public’s interest that residents report any crime taking place. You should also report perpetrators you know of, even if they are family members,” he added.
For now, residents remain determined to make their voices heard, while police continue to urge vigilance and reporting of crime.
