Alleged injustice sparks protest outside Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court

Protesters gather outside the Krugersdorp court, claiming police arrested the wrong suspects in a recent rape and murder case.

Dozens of Munsieville residents gathered outside the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court this morning, September 19, claiming police arrested the wrong suspects in connection with a recent rape and murder.

According to Deka Specialized Services’ general manager, Marcel Jonker, the protest started at about 08:00. By mid-morning, protesters carrying placards had filled the area outside the court, where police monitored the largely peaceful demonstration.

Protester Langa Mzonyane said the community is angry about the killing of a woman on Tuesday, September 16.

“We believe the police arrested the wrong people,” said Mzonyane.

He claimed that five people were arrested, one was released, and the community does not understand why the others remain in custody.

The Krugersdorp News attempted to obtain comment from police officers at the scene, but none was provided at the time of publication. Station commander Brigadier Happy Xaba was also contacted but could not comment or confirm the allegations.

Any updates will be published as soon as they are received.
