Krugersdorp mourns as 19-year-old dies in motorcycle accident
The community is in mourning following the death of 19-year-old Ruben van Niekerk, described as a vibrant young man with a heart of gold. His funeral will take place on Saturday at NG Kerk Suiderlig.
The community is grieving the loss of Ruben van Niekerk (19), who was recently involved in a motorcycle accident on Viljoen Street in Krugersdorp North.
Ruben collided with a vehicle on the morning of October 30 and passed away later that day due to the injuries he sustained.

Ruben’s father, Izak van Niekerk, spoke to the Krugersdorp News about his son and described him as lively and full of heart.
Izak shared that Ruben was a former Hoërskool Monument High learner who matriculated in 2024 and worked as an engineer in the mechanical field for a company. He also had dreams of becoming a farmer in America one day.
“Our beautiful, only son – we will always carry you in our hearts. Love you, Rubs,” Izak said.

The community has also expressed their condolences on social media:
Valerie Swanepoel wrote: “Our hearts are broken. Everyone who has known you from a young age could feel your passion for life in your voice and everything you took part in. Strength to your dad, mom, sister, family, and all your friends. May Jesus hold and comfort you all. You are and will always be remembered as a legend.”
Christel Van Staden-Fairlie added: “Ruben was in matric with my son last year. My heart aches so much for you. I am very sorry for your loss. I pray that our Heavenly Father’s grace, strength, and comfort surround your family. Much strength to you all!”
Ruben’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, at the NG Kerk Suiderlig in Krugersdorp West, starting at 11:00. Attendees have been asked to dress colourfully in celebration of Ruben’s joyful spirit.
