Revving for a cause: Santa Run spreads cheer

Nearly 1 000 people joined the West Rand Bikers Association’s Santa Run, filling the streets with rumbling engines, goodwill, and Christmas joy.

Residents awoke to the roar of hundreds of motorcycles on Sunday morning, November 9, all for a charitable cause.

The West Rand Bikers Association (WRBA) hosted their annual Santa Run, which began in Krugersdorp and concluded at a venue along the N14 in Sterkfontein, where attendees enjoyed live entertainment.

JP du Toit, the event organiser, stated that the main goal of the run is to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate and to engage with the community.

This annual event has been taking place since 2010, and JP noted that it continues to grow stronger each year.

He estimated that around 20 motorcycle clubs participated, with about 470 riders and 800 people attending.

“The highlight of the day was definitely the mass ride and the incredible gathering! It was fantastic to see so many people open their hearts to support this cause, and we are extremely grateful for that,” he said.

The day featured various activities, live entertainment, giveaways, and fun for children, including jumping castles.

“The socialising was amazing. Everyone was in high spirits, and it truly was a day to remember.”

The Santa Run depended on the collaboration of numerous bikers for organisation, and the WRBA committee’s involvement was essential.

“We start planning next year’s event early in the new year, and each time, it just gets bigger and better,” JP concluded.
