Curamus learners step into hospitality roles for autism awareness fundraiser
Curamus School for Autism will host its termly fundraiser, allowing learners to gain real-world hospitality experience while promoting autism awareness and inclusion.
Curamus School for Autism is combining fundraising with real-world skills development when its learners take on temporary hospitality roles later this month.
As part of the initiative, learners will shadow restaurant staff during the evening service, allowing them to develop social interaction, communication and workplace skills in a real-world environment.
Curamus provides specialised education to learners on the autism spectrum, focusing on equipping them with academic, social and vocational skills to support greater independence and community integration.

According to event organiser Ansa Kotze, the fundraiser is held at least once per term and forms part of the school’s broader strategy to combine skills development with community engagement.
“This is not just an opportunity to raise much-needed funds, but also a chance to promote awareness and acceptance of people with autism. It highlights our learners’ abilities, not just their diagnosis,” Kotze said.
A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to the school to support its programmes and operational needs.
Community members who wish to support the initiative can contact Ansa on 082 303 9738 or Curamus School on 011 665 1033 for further details.
