Flying Squad cracks down on crime across the West Rand

The West Rand Flying Squad made several arrests and recovered stolen vehicles during recent operations across Kagiso, Fochville, Chamdor and Rietvallei.

The police’s West Rand Flying Squad (WRFS) recently made several arrests and recovered stolen vehicles as part of ongoing efforts to keep communities safe.

According to WRFS spokesperson Karen du Plessis, officers recorded multiple successes, ranging from vehicle recoveries to drug-related arrests.

On February 21 at about 12:30, officers recovered a stolen Volkswagen Tiguan valued at R700 000 in Kagiso.

Later that day, officers conducted a stop-and-search operation in Fochville and arrested a suspect found in possession of drugs.

“They recovered Mandrax tablets, three grams of crystal meth and one gram of an unknown white powder, with a total value of R1 282.50,” she said.

Du Plessis added that on February 22, officers acted on information received and arrested a suspect in Kagiso for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

On February 23, police traced and arrested another suspect in Kagiso for contravening a protection order.

Police again followed up on information on February 24, arresting a suspect in Kagiso who was found in possession of 16 Mandrax tablets, two grams of crystal meth and R262 in cash. The drugs were valued at R1 920.

Later that day, officers arrested another suspect in Kagiso for possession of drugs. Police confiscated Mandrax tablets, four grams of crystal meth and R110 in cash, with a total value of R1 726.50.

On February 25, officers recovered another stolen vehicle, an Isuzu valued at R340 000, in Chamdor.

Du Plessis added that later the same day, officers arrested a suspect in Rietvallei who was found in possession of a stolen GWM Steed. The arrest followed information received from a tracking company. The vehicle is valued at R150 000.
