Rising angler Khumalo reels in big achievements

A catchy tale of Andrew Khumalo, a young Krugersdorp angler making big waves early on.

Within a year of taking up angling, Andrew Khumalo earned his provincial colours and is already aiming to achieve even more.

Khumalo was identified early last year by his coach, Sampie Blom, for method feeder angling – a freshwater discipline in South Africa. He continued to develop his skills under Blom and fellow coach Werner Lubbe, eventually earning Central Gauteng A-team colours and competing at the SA Championships.

In his first few months, Khumalo caught a variety of fish, including a 7.5kg catfish – the first catfish he had ever landed.

He trains regularly, often practising at the dam by casting his line and preparing feeding spots, which Sampie says is one of the most effective ways to improve.

“Andrew’s next goal is to qualify for the South African Championships again, and in the long term, to earn his national colours,” said Blom.

“We are extremely proud of his dedication to the sport and look forward to his future achievements,” he added.
