Hundreds gather for protest in Krugersdorp CBD

Law enforcement officials are monitoring a protest movement as crowds make their way through the Krugersdorp CBD towards the Town Hall.

Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Town Hall in the Krugersdorp CBD from around 11:35 on May 27.

The protest remained peaceful at the time of publication, with police and Public Safety officials on site monitoring the situation.

According to reports, the group moved through town from Coronation Park towards the Town Hall.

Some protesters were seen carrying sticks and shamboks. Protester Ndoda Zulu said the demonstration was aimed at raising concerns around immigration in the country.

A short while ago, police fired rubber bullets in an attempt to disperse the crowd and regain control of the situation.
