Trauma centre opening to tackle GBV and men’s mental health in Mogale

Breaking silence. Restoring hope. A bold new chapter in the fight against GBV will see the light of day in Mogale City.

A new initiative aimed at addressing gender-based violence (GBV) and men’s mental health will be launched in Krugersdorp later this month, alongside the official opening of a trauma support facility designed to strengthen community-based care.

The Bethesda Clinic and Trauma Centre will officially open on Saturday, June 27 at the Mogale Civic Centre at Town Hall in the CBD, marking a significant development in local psychosocial support services. The launch is being held in collaboration with the International Writers Training Centre and supported by the Mogale City Local Municipality.

The trauma centre will provide counselling, psychosocial support, and survivor advocacy services, with a strong focus on men’s mental health alongside broader GBV recovery programmes. Organisers say the facility aims to create a safe and accessible space for healing within the community.

The opening is expected to bring together representatives from government departments, including the police, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Health, as well as traditional leaders, GBV ambassadors, faith-based organisations, authors, international delegates, and community stakeholders.
