Mogale reopens public pools in Krugersdorp and Kagiso

Municipal divisions divide maintenance duties to keep swimming facilities operational after years of neglect.

Several public swimming pools in Mogale City are ready for the summer season after years of disrepair and neglect. Facilities in Azaadville, Kagiso and Krugersdorp West are preparing to welcome residents back.

Mogale’s spokesperson Refilwe Mahlangu said early this year that assessments identified pollution and broken pumps as the main reasons for the closures. The municipality’s Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Division manages operations, while the Building Maintenance Division handles structural upkeep.

Executive Mayor Lucky Sele confirmed earlier in September that the facilities would reopen for community use.

Community members remain sceptical about long-term maintenance

Despite the reopening, some community members remain sceptical about whether the facilities will be maintained over the long term. Kagiso resident Pablo Moketsi said that while the pools offer positive recreational activities for young people, he hopes they will stay operational.

Operating hours and entry fees

The pools operate from Tuesday to Saturday between 09:00 and 17:00, and remain closed on Sundays, Mondays and public holidays.

Entry fees are structured as follows:

• Adults: R8
• Children: R4
• Seasonal school ticket: R234
• Seasonal club fee: R78
• Aquatic sports facility rental: R97

Safety rules and swimwear requirements

Swimmers must wear appropriate swimwear, as underwear and skin-coloured garments are prohibited.

Visitors must also follow lifeguard and facility staff instructions to ensure safety.
