School support initiative expands to Kagiso

The back-to-school initiative that began in Munsieville has now expanded to Kagiso, continuing the municipality's mission to support learners across the West Rand.

After Mayor Lucky Sele launched his back-to-school initiative at Munsieville Primary School last week, where more than 50 pairs of school shoes were donated, the initiative has now moved on to schools in Kagiso.

According to Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu, the initiative forms part of a broader community outreach targeting schools across the West Rand.

“It also aligns with the Gauteng Provincial Government’s programme aimed at supporting effective teaching and learning, improving access, increasing participation, and promoting transformation in sport, arts, culture and recreation in schools,” she said.

Mahlangu added that the initiative first began in 2023 with a visit to the Munsieville Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre, where children received new, colourful books and educational toys to help spark a love for learning.

“Learners also received dignity packs in the form of MCLM-branded backpacks, reinforcing a simple but powerful message – where you live should never determine the support you receive,” Mahlangu concluded.
