Faith needs a few small challenges

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

It is easy to trust God when you live in a nice house, drive a new car and have the support of an amazing family.

It really helps if you are healthy and you have a million in the bank.

And just to cover all bases you have a medical aid for just in case and a few policies – life, disability and retirement.

These are great things to have but they may hinder your faith’s development.

Faith, like physical exercise, needs to develop through regular and rigorous use.

Be warned; faith needs a few small challenges to grow. It is no good taking care of all your needs and then facing cancer, divorce or retrenchment. It is just too big to handle. Jesus taught his disciples to ask for their daily bread. It is a great start.

Just watching God provide for your small needs will grow your faith so that one day you will look Goliath in the eyes without fear.

Listen to David’s words in 1 Sam 17v37, “The Lord that delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine”.

Killing your small giants is good preparation for the big giants waiting for all of us.

Amen.
