Hoërskool Noordheuwel had their awards evening in our auditorium, hat an inspiration it was. I watched as children received recognition for achievements during 2013 – cultural awards, academic achievements and sports accolades.
A few children received recognition for achievements in all three categories, cultural, academic and sport. Most of the children achieved in one of the three. As these beautiful young people went forward my mind wondered off. Why them?
What about the 70 per cent who don’t get prizes?
Yes, parent support is important. Yes, teachers play a key role in their achievements. But God must have something to do with it. It is then that I remembered the story in the Bible of the talents, one got five, one got three and another one just got one talent.
No one got nothing. Yes, even Gerrit Mes has a talent, a gift from God. I must find the talent, develop it and then use it to help other people. Yes, you also have a talent, a special gift from God. If you want to be really happy, discover your gift, develop it and start using it. Don’t envy the person with the five talents.
Live yours to God’s glory and you will change someone’s world. If the parents of achievers experience pride, imagine how happy God must be, watching us becoming all He created us to be.
What is your gift?
