Laughter is good medicine

The word religion conjures up pictures of buildings, Bibles, hymns and prayers, discipline, rules and maybe even punishment.

Religion, for many people, is more about duties than delight.

One little often overlooked verse in the Old Testament of the Bible paints a very different picture. Brace yourself, this may be a shock.

Proverbs 17:22, “Laughter is good medicine” or listen to this translation, “A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing.” 21st century medical studies have confirmed this ancient Bible principle.

Laughter releases endorphins that are natural pain killers for the body. It is a feel-better drug.

Doctors even believe that regular laughter helps the immune system.

Laughter, they say, counters the stress we experience in our lives. People who never laugh are at greater risk of illness than people who regularly enjoy laughter. God has given us the gift of laughter and we must share it with other people.
