Resolve your issues today

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

It is only after I put the pen down last week, having finished the article on guilt, that I realised the enormity of the subject.

Yes, it is a sign of a healthy conscience to be able to feel guilt. If you or I can do terrible things without any feelings of guilt, it is a sure sign of a sick conscience. But many of us feel guilty about things we should not feel guilt for. A rape victim often feels guilt even though he or she is not guilty of wrongdoing.

A visit to a good counsellor should help you not to carry unnecessary guilt.

One of the worst effects of guilt is when it is allowed to carry on for years. Yes, time can heal but it is also true that time can turn simple guilt into a cancer of the soul. The event took place many years ago but its affects can be felt for a lifetime. My advice is, get help. For many people I have counselled over the years, yesterday destroys tomorrow even before it comes. God offers hope for all of us that struggle with guilt issues.

The Bible opens a way for you to come to God and to ask for wisdom, the ability to feel healthy guilt emotions without allowing the devil to tie us up with feelings of guilt.

Once you have brought your situation to God in prayer, you can let it go.

Tomorrow is always better once we have settled our issues from yesterday. Don’t delay, resolve your issues and enjoy tomorrow.
