‘He that is without sin, let him cast the first stone’

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

Stop judging! It seems to be in our human nature to judge.

We judge people for what they do, we judge people we have never even met. I recently stopped long enough not to judge others but myself. I didn’t like what I saw. Like everybody else, I am a judgemental individual. Please don’t condemn me, recognising my problem is the first step to recovery.

It has taken a concerted effort to deal with the social evil we all face, passing judgement.

Being a Christian, I need to live by the principles of Jesus Christ. Contrary to popular belief, Jesus was not judgemental. He broke all the religious rules of his day. He showed compassion and grace where religion condemned people.

I looked in my Bible’s concordance and was shocked to find the theme of judgement so prominent. Judge, judged, judges, judging and judgement is not our business.

If you want to read an interesting piece on this subject, read Matthew 7: 1-2,“ Do not judge or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged…”

My prayer to God today is simply this, “God, help me not to judge others, but to love them.”

Maybe it is time to take the beam out of our own eyes before we try to take the splinter out of someone else’s eye.

“He that is without sin, let him cast the first stone.”
