Late one afternoon when arriving home, we entered our flat and found cat faeces on our beds and bloody vomit on my children’s bedroom floor.
Our family cat was nowhere to be seen. My children went outside to look for him when I heard my daughter scream from our flat’s balcony. I knew they had found our cat and that something was seriously wrong.
I went out to go see what was wrong and came coming across our beloved cat laying in the sand between the plants in the a terrible state. It was extremely shocking, it was the most terrifying thing to see.
He was unable to walk, was foaming at the mouth, his pupils were extremely tiny – even his eye colour had changed, he was shivering and breather rapidly. This was an extreme shock to us as we left Friday morning to a perfectly healthy cat that still was playing and very active like every other morning.
Now our cat was hardly recognisable.
Our cat was poisoned and after researching it I found out that cats are poisoned by having the poison thrown on their fur and they then groom the poison off and ingest it. Cats don’t just eat bait that’s laced with poison.
The worst part is my children are still young and have a close relationship with the cat. They also were at risk of getting poisoned when they came into contact with the cat.
Our cat doesn’t venture far, he stays close to home so this definitely was done inside our complex.
Please, other cat owners in the area, keep your cats indoors as this is really a genuine concern to cats and children.
