The word ‘racism’ is notably absent from local politicians’ tweets, comments and posts, as if the naming of the hatred we all witnessed, and which many of us directly were targeted with, would spoil the calmness in the city.
More interestingly is that there is a deafening silence about plans to expose, eliminate or prevent racism that explodes on social media. I agree: this is not what Krugersdorp should be.
We should be more careful and contemplate the implications of what we post online.
We all known that Krugersdorpers always have committed themselves to peace as they go about with their daily businesses. People here never are interested in knowing about what media or social media say about the differences of black and whites.
I guess!
Lately no one wished to be associated with Penny Sparrow’s racial bile on social network. In fact, the majority of people here comforted themselves that what they saw and heard was some sort of temporary illusion, a nightmare from which we might soon awake.
My fellow residents seemed to have digested hatred from social media as accidents of outdated thinking, and as the will of uniquely wicked individuals who sadly rose to power.
These bigoted views by certain white individuals were nearly as common as they were disgusting, and to some of us, if Sparrow had not associated herself with a political party, her vitriol never would have made the news and she could have gone to the grave without her being known before the public.
Lastly, let me thank the majority of the residents in Mogale City for not taking part in the circulation of all bigoted posts that were intended to have the potential for causing irreparable harm to the dignity and reputations of individuals and social groups.
I do believe most South Africans have faith in this country. Though there is an extremely vocal, albeit minority group of mental dwarfs who think they can reinforce their position through comments on social media.
As for me, racist posts are just a useless blah blah …
We have serious issues to talk about. Just ask your ward councillor.
