Raliphi George Master Push Xolelizwe, you turned on your charm offensive. The ANC is still your home, even if you have issues.
This is what Sanco Mogale City sub-regional chairperson, Master Push, told Kagiso residents during a door-to-door campaign by the ANC after several residents had complained about poor service delivery from the Mogale City Local Municipality and the lack of jobs.
“I understand why the community says we must move to win back the confidence. I know a lot of work we still need to do, even where there is progress, it’s clouded by history. But I promise, you will see us a lot, not just during elections”, Master Push said.
In Vuka’zenzele (as the place in Mogale City is popularly known), residents voted overwhelmingly for the ANC both in the 2011 local elections and in last year’s general elections. The ANC won the Mogale City local government elections with 60,36 per cent of the votes. The ANC won 25 of the 34 Mogale City wards, with the rest going to the Democratic Alliance (DA).
Master Push urged supporters in Mogale City to win local elections with big numbers. He told ANC members and residents that winning the elections with a small margin would limit the ANC’s ability to govern effectively, including changing laws. He said the current system had not benefited black people.
However, he said that if black people voted, government would change the system to fast-track land restitution. He said the constitution mistakenly recognised 1913 as the cut-off for land claims whereas repossession had started in 1600, continued in the 1700s and got worse in the 1800s.
Master Push was accompanied by Mogale City Sanco sub-regional leadership.
Songs and praises were generously offered to Master Push – someone from the crowd even shouted out “Üzobusa” (you will rule).
Master Push is seen as the West Rand candidate for the position of Sanco chairperson.
