In response to the letter Problem with barking dogs:
The anonymous writer of this letter has all my sympathy! We also live in a complex where there are too many dogs living in too small spaces that bark for hours on end!
If you do approach the owner, you are usually shouted at, sworn at, branded and called a dog hater. The fact that they leave their dogs alone, frustrated, scared, and with separation anxiety does not occur to them.
But the neighbours have to suffer for it. There are solutions!
If people will only do a little bit of research … there is training available, medication from a vet, therapy, and you can buy products that give off sound waves that only dogs can hear.
And special collars can be used as well. Some people even go as far as removing the dog’s voice box. A bit extreme, but sometimes the only solution!
If only people would care for their dogs as much as they say they do … then a lot of dogs would lead happier lives and be loved by the neighbours too.
