The article Project launched after cat death which featured in the newspaper a few weeks ago does not nearly touch on what truly happened. The cat was not merely killed, it was barbarically beaten to death by an employee with a hockey stick, while other colleagues assisted.
It sickens me that the Mall is appealing to an already cash-strapped public to help with their project, when they rake in tons of money through rentals each month!
The amount of *R10 000 the Mall is donating toward having the cats sterilised is minuscule when compared to the brutality that occurred. It seems many forget that the area where the Mall now stands used to be the home of many wild animals and feral cats before human greed led to yet another development taking over their habitat.
And what is the employer of this employee doing to restore the business’ image? They stock and sell cat food, but are they coming to the aid of these poor animals after one of their own employees butchered an innocent and hungry cat?
In my opinion, the store should be making the biggest donation toward these animals, and to animal shelters in Krugersdorp as a whole.
Donate R100k of your profits to some of our struggling animal shelters and maybe … just maybe … the public will see you in a positive light again.
The true character of a man can be measured by the way he treats animals!
