We live in Oaktree, on David Road which has two entrances – one at the top entering from the Hekpoort road (Sterkfontein Hospital road) and the bottom one entering from the N14.
When trucks , taxis, garden services and motorists see that the traffic police are manning a roadblock opposite the Oaktee service station, they use David Road to bypass the cops.
The traffic on this road is then worse than Hendrik Potgieter Road in peak time!
They drive more than 40km on the dust road, where we have people on horseback, people jogging, and workers on their way back home. It is a narrow road and all the dust comes into the houses. A month ago, I stopped when there was a road block and told one of the officers that motorists were avoiding the road block by going through David Road. She said that they would place a car in David Road, but nothing has been done.
What is the Traffic Department going to do about this? They’re dodging you for a reason, maybe outstanding fines, unroadworthy vehicles, no licence … and they are just getting away with it and endangering the lives of people walking, horseback riding and so forth.
We supposedly live in the countryside, but it does not feel like it, and the best is we have a traffic officer living on David Road who sees this, and does not do a thing!
