On Thursday, 24 January, four young men from Krugersdorp and Muldersdrift began their two-year service as missionaries, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
They will form part of a greater whole of more than 67 000 missionaries who serve globally in the church.
These four will serve in the Cape Town and Uganda areas. Our missionaries do not request their area of assignment and do not know beforehand whether they will be required to learn a new language, so this is an opportunity that is never taken lightly. It requires preparation – spiritually, physically and financially.
In these two years, the boys will take time weekly to write home. They don’t call their friends or go on breaks or holidays. They won’t be swimming or watching movies. They will be proselytising, serving, teaching and loving the people in the places they are assigned to, which could include working in hospitals and schools, and assisting their disparate communities in general.
Bishop Simon Milne shared the following: “I feel excited and proud, this kind of dedication takes a lot of guts. During the two years they’ll have a few lows and some highs. It is significant and a big decision. God be with you till we meet again.”
Here in Krugersdorp we also have dedicated missionaries all the way from Utah, so if you’d like to meet with them, give them a call on 076 814 8225, or visit on Sundays at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 62 Paul Kruger Street, Monument. Services at 8am, 9.30am and 11am.
