New premier a breath of fresh air

Thabile Mange from Kagiso writes:

We have lost faith and trust in our political leaders and the political system. To add insult to injury, the very politicians we have lost trust in are the very ones who are running the country and making policies.

So, we are stuck with them.

South Africa does not have a money problem, it has a corruption problem.

If you have been following the Zondo Commission, you will know what I’m talking about. Our country is rotten to the core with corruption.

Our political leaders live a life of opulence at the expense of poor citizens. Former Northern Cape Premier, Sylvia Lucas, once spent R10 000 on KFC. Lucas nevertheless completed her term of office. Interestingly, she has been rewarded with a prominent position in government. If this is not madness, I don’t know what it is.

The community of the Northern Cape has been disgruntled and despondent for a very long time. They once closed schools for almost a year in protest about a road that needed to be tarred. That’s how frustrated they were with poor service delivery in that province.

For a change, the Northern Cape is in the news for a good reason. There is a new sheriff in town. His name is Dr Zamani Saul. Saul is the epitome of servant leadership. He represents what President Cyril Ramaphosa calls the “New Dawn”.

During his inauguration as the Northern Cape Premier, Dr Saul announced that there will be no blue lights in his province. A few days later, the new premier bought 12 ambulances for the province instead of fancy cars for his MECs. Where has he been?

Dr Saul appears to be a man who has a plan to fix that poverty-stricken province. No, he seems like a man who has a vision to take the Northern Cape to greater heights. He has already proven that he can do it.

The new Northern Cape premier is a soft-spoken man of few words. He also doesn’t like to draw attention to himself. Instead, he is letting his work do the talking. Service delivery is his main focus. This is the kind of leadership that province has been yearning for for many years. God has answered their prayers.
