I am so appalled by the way things look in Krugersdorp.
It’s dirty, filled with filth from vagrants and hawkers, and public spaces are just downright disgusting because it seems that no one cares about the environment anymore.
When moving around town it’s clear that those who work and play in Krugersdorp think its streets are dustbins. Paper, alcohol bottles, half-eaten chicken dinners and used condoms are strewn everywhere, for all the world to see.
Don’t we have street cleaners anymore?
The principals of some of Krugersdorp’s prominent schools even get the learners to clean up the mess others have made around their premises.
I am ashamed to call myself a resident of this town. I know that pointing fingers doesn’t help, because four fingers are pointing back at me. But I am going to commend myself because I clean up around me. I do my bit by recycling, creating awareness, not using plastic so much and also teaching my kids and family to pick up after themselves.
But for the life of me I cannot understand why this is not the case in the rest of Krugersdorp.
Children are educated in school about littering, yet their parents couldn’t care less. I even heard the absurdity that if one litters it is considered job creation! Please tell me, mister litterbug, when was the last time you saw a street cleaner picking up your rubbish?
If you litter, you contribute to the problem our children’s children will face one day. And you know what? You are committing a crime against humanity.
