Thank you for supporting Keorapetse!

Thabile Mange from Kagiso writes:

Krugersdorp High School (KHS) runs an educational programme that sends its brightest matric learners to the United States’ higher learning institutions for a week-long educational tour every year.

Keorapetse Moeketse, a senior learner at KHS, was among the selected few.

KHS does not raise funds for learners selected to attend the overseas educational programme. The responsibility lies with the chosen learners’ parents, and not all pupils are in a position to raise the funds to attend the programme.

Early this year, I wrote a letter to the News on behalf of Keorapetse, requesting financial assistance for her educational trip to the US. I’m happy to inform the readers that she made it to America for the educational programme.

During her week-long stay there, she spent most of her time at the renowned institution known as Harvard University. She rubbed shoulders with the leading academics and socialised with top students from different countries. This is a [once in a] lifetime experience.

When she was overseas, she did not represent her school and family only. She represented Mogale City and the entire nation as well. I’m glad that she carried herself very well and raised the country’s flag. Her future looks bright.

KHS is doing great by affording its senior learners such a rare opportunity. I know a few schools in and around the country that run such educational programmes. It is my wish that other high schools would adopt a similar programme.

Keorapetse wouldn’t have made it to Harvard without the support of Mogale’s citizens. I wish to thank the Mogale City Municipal Council for its substantial donation to her trip. If it were not for the City Council, she wouldn’t have made it to the US.

I also wish to thank the Mogale City employees, my colleagues and individual citizens for buying the fundraising tickets. Lastly, my gratitude goes to the News for publishing my letter. Thank you very much!
