Why has it stopped?

Mandla Mahlaba From Tarlton writes:

We the people of Tarlton, Ward 30, want to know why the Brickvale Project has stopped? There is no longer movement or any process taking place at Brickvale Housing Project. People are not even informed as to why the development is no longer taking place or is on hold. People waited for so long to get RDP houses in Tarlton. The community was full of hope that at least their dreams of having houses will come true after they waited for more than 20 years. We are now surprised because even Phase 1 has not been completed but the project just stopped. No one is updating the community as to why the project stopped.

The community is concerned and demand answers or updates. We were hoping that the project would benefit the community a lot and reduce unemployment, but we were wrong. Majority of our youth is still unemployed.

We know that there is a lot of corruption taking place in our government. We, as citizens of this country, therefore appeal to Mogale City Local Municipality to give us answers or update us about the project as to why it is not functional and currently stopped.

We want answers. Update us please … nothing but the truth.

* Mogale City’s Human Settlements and Real Estate Management Division gives feedback:

Mogale City Local Municipality wishes to assure residents of Tarlton that work on the Brickvale Housing Project has not stopped and is proceeding as planned. It is important to note that all housing developments are planned and implemented in several phases, and the Brickvale Housing Project is no different. In the present phase the installation of bulk services i.e. water, sewer and a pump station along the N14 freeway to ensure that bulk service connections are secured, is to be concluded.

It is also important for the residents to note that the development and provision of housing is a competence of the Gauteng Provincial Government’s Department of Human Settlements and done in partnership with the municipality.

Residents must also be aware that for any project implemented by government, there are various platforms for engagements, for example, Project Steering Committee, which are established to ensure ease of communication between government, the community and service providers. We encourage residents to engage with committee members and track progress on any project’s progress.

For more information on the Brickvale Housing Project, community members can approach Ward 26 and 30 councillors or the office of the project manager.
