Trust God like a child

Pastor Gerrit Mes; From the pulpit

My grandson is learning how to swim. The pool is big and the water frightening. But he trusts his “oupie”. Knowing that he is safe in my hands he relaxes and enjoys the experience. Imagine if we could trust our Heavenly Father the way my grandson trusts me. Imagine if we could relax, enjoy life, knowing we are in good hands. The Bible is full of advice on the subject of trust. We are warned that we cannot trust people, not even ourselves. We are told that we cannot trust in our own strength and resources. David, in the book of Psalms, says, “In God I trust, I will not be afraid”.

This is easier said than done. God, at times, seems so far away, so un-involved. In fact, you may even think that he is un-interested in your daily lives. You pray and he seems to do what he wants to anyway. Many of your prayers were either unanswered or denied. Can you really trust God?

We cannot trust God to do what we ask. He is God and he can do anything. Trusting is not outcomes-based. It is letting go and enjoying the experience. Total trust is rare and beautiful.

So special when my grandson rides on my Vespa with me in our yard. His favourite word is, “faster”. He now knows if I twist the throttle the Vespa speeds up.

Imagine if we could look over our shoulder and say to God, “Faster”. Knowing that he will never hurt us.

Life should be an adventure if we are in God’s hands. Trust God today and say, “faster”.
