• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
The pandemic during 2020 changed our world. Things we took for granted are now the exception, not the rule. Many people knowingly or unknowingly have struggled with ‘mental health’.
We understand physical wellness, but this new world has challenged us like nothing in our history. ‘No man is an island’ is so true.
Yes, we have extraverts and introverts. We have loners and social butterflies. But without exception we need each other.
Social distancing, as important as it is, can affect your mental health. The mask-wearing, as crucial as it is, has an effect on all of us.
Human beings, like our four-legged friends, crave and need intimacy, and denying ourselves of most physical contact has an influence on our well-being. It is the way God created us.
How do I maintain my mental health in these times?
I keep connected within a safe framework. Don’t withdraw, don’t isolate 100 percent, stay connected.
Then I try to stay balanced. I don’t allow my isolation to consume me. I dwell on things in the past and I anticipate patiently one day having more of my precious normal.
I appreciate my intimacy with my Creator. At His feet, on His lap and in His arms, I find peace. God is never far away.
