LETTER: Each day is a gift from God and tomorrow is no guarantee
‘No one knows the hour of death, but we can face each day knowing that if it is our turn, we have made peace’ – local pastor.
• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
A few weeks ago, yet another terrible tragedy. At the Pinehaven intersection, in one moment, people’s lives were changed forever.
I heard someone say that if they were there two minutes earlier, they could have been involved in that tragic event. Many of us can look back on our lives and see where two minutes, maybe even two seconds, made the difference between life and death. Yet, most mornings we wake up, get up and get ready for the day as if nothing will go wrong.
Youth, health and money is not a guarantee that we will see tomorrow.
The Bible tells the story of a rich man who had lots of money. His barns were full and he built new ones, bigger ones. He lived as if he would never die. That night he died. He left the world as he came, with nothing.
Matthew 16:26. “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul.”
Each day is a gift from God and tomorrow is no guarantee. We only have today. Will you to work today, will you get home tonight? No one knows. Because of this uncertainty, let’s make right with God, let’s make right with our neighbour and let’s make right with ourselves.
No one knows the hour of death, but we can face each day knowing that if it is our turn, we have made peace. A Pinehaven event does not come with a warning, it just happens.
