Racer determined to end the season well

Clifford Ogle is ready to make this year's Brunch Run Series his best season yet.

With screeching tyres and amazing skill local motorcycling racer Clifford Ogle currently is racing in his third season of the Brunch Run Series.

This is a racing category in the Extreme Festival that is organised and run by Zwartkops Raceway.

Ogle is planning to make the third season his best yet after the previous season did not go as planned.

“I have experienced quite a few ups and downs over the last two seasons. In 2012 I won my class by quite a big points margin and always have managed to finish within the top five.”

In 2013 he traded his 600cc motorbike for the more powerful 1000cc machine with the aim of competing in the higher classes.

“I was ready to set the world alight. However, approximately four laps into the qualifying round for the first race of the 2013 season I was riding too fast and woke up in Unitas Hospital four days later with a shattered wrist and a nice bump on the head.”

This caused him to spend the rest of the year watching his competitors from the grandstands.

“I only managed to compete in the last three races of the year, which was quite a downer for me.”

This year he looked forward to a full season of competitive racing.

“But unfortunately the beginning of the season did not quite go according to plan as I was far off the pace set by the frontrunners. It was very disappointing.”

When he went to bigger and faster circuits such as Kyalami and Phakisa, the other racers would get ahead of him.

“I realised that it was time for me to make a change as my current racing setup was not working. Sulking after every race meeting wasn’t a productive solution either.”

Ogle says he needed a new strategy and therefore decided to take his bike to WHC Racing in Silverfields where the owner Wayne Carl made the necessary changes and modifications.

“When I got back onto the bike after all the modifications it felt as if Christmas had come early. My lap times dropped dramatically with barely any effort and I went from hovering around the top ten spot to a frontrunner straight out the gate.”

Ogle also managed to score four podium positions in four races and with the recent run of results he jumped up the championship standings from being fifth to second.

“Going into the last race meetings of the season I stand a real chance of taking the title.”

He explains that the championship is on a knife-edge, especially considering the final race is in November.
